Graduate-Level Environmental Studies, Built for Working Professionals
Batten's online Master of Environmental Studies (MEnv) is a 30-credit program designed for environmental and sustainability professionals who want to deepen their expertise and move up. The curriculum covers the full scope of contemporary environmental practice — problem solving, policy and law, sustainability assessment and measurement, environmental ethics and justice, climate change and resilience, and water resources management — alongside a business core that ensures graduates can operate effectively in organizational contexts, not just technical ones. Active environmental practitioners serve as guest instructors throughout the program, bringing real-world mentorship and professional networking into the learning environment. The degree culminates in a capstone project that integrates your coursework with your career interests and your own community — an internship-eligible experience that produces tangible, portfolio-ready work.
The department strongly recommends that applicants have completed coursework in statistics, upper-level natural sciences, and business or economics before enrolling. Students without a statistics background may wish to complete one before taking ENVS 525: Sustainability Assessment and Measurement.
Course Information
The program requires completion of all environmental core and science application courses, one business elective, a communication course, and a two-part capstone sequence. 30 credit hours total.

Admission Requirements
- Complete our online application.
- Provide official academic transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges and universities previously attended. If more than one institution has been attended, the cumulative GPA for all coursework attempted must be 2.7 or higher. In addition, the GPA earned at the institution at which the bachelor's degree was awarded must be 2.7 or higher. (The department strongly recommends that applicants have previously taken a statistics course, upper-level courses in the natural sciences, and a business or economics class. Students who have not taken an undergraduate statistics class may wish to do so before taking the ENVS 525 course.)
