Veteran & Military Benefits

Batten University offers a $200 per credit hour grant to any student participating in the Evening & Weekend or Online Undergraduate programs, who is using Military Tuition Assistance or is Active Duty (not using their GI Bill) for the 2026-2027 academic year.  The Military Grant creates a $250 per credit hour tuition rate. To be eligible for this grant, the student MUST turn in their Tuition Assistance form or copy of their current military orders before the beginning of each semester to Batten’s Certifying Official.

When submitting your registration and certification information, please download and complete the Batten Veteran Notification of Registration Form and submit it with your class schedule.

The GI Bill covers a range of education expenses for eligible veterans and service members:

• Tuition and fees — If you qualify for the maximum benefit, the full cost of tuition and fees are covered up to the VA's private school cap.
• Monthly housing allowance — Receive a housing allowance based on the cost of living in your area if you're enrolled more than half time.
• Books and supplies stipend — Receive up to the maximum annual stipend for books and course materials.
• Rural relocation assistance — You may qualify for a one-time payment if you live in a rural county and are relocating to attend school.

The MGIB-SR program may be available if you are a member of the Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard. This benefit provides monthly payments while you pursue education or training. Eligibility and payment rates vary — visit the VA's MGIB-SR page for current rates and requirements.

Military Tuition Assistance is available to active duty, National Guard, and Reserve service members and covers up to 100% of tuition costs, subject to per-credit and annual caps set by each military branch. TA is approved for the following types of courses:

• Courses offered for credit that are part of an approved degree program
• Distance learning and online courses
• Independent study courses

TA does not cover: books and course materials, flight training fees, repeated courses, or continuing education units (CEUs).

Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. Contact your Military Education Resource Center for details specific to your branch.

Batten University participates in the MyCAA Scholarship program, which provides up to $4,000 in tuition assistance to eligible military spouses pursuing a license, certification, or associate degree in a portable career field.

Who is eligible:

• Spouses of active duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-6, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-3
• Spouses of members of the National Guard and Reserves in the same pay grades
• The annual cap is $2,000, with a total benefit of up to $4,000

MyCAA does not cover: books and supplies, equipment, computers, reimbursements, student activities, or courses already completed.

The Army Credentialing Assistance program helps soldiers build credentials and certifications while on active duty, preparing them for civilian careers. Army CA pays up to $4,000 per fiscal year for training and credentials in high-demand fields. Soldiers choose from dozens of eligible credentials and certifications aligned to their career goals.

Batten University participates in the General Education Mobile (GEM) Program, a partnership between the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) and approved institutions to offer general education courses that fulfill CCAF associate degree requirements. Batten's online courses are available during four mini-terms per year, giving Air Force students flexibility to complete their general education requirements on their own schedule.

How to Access GEM Courses at Batten

1. Log into the Air Force Portal and select Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC).
2. Select "GEM Program" and search for Approved GEM Schools.
3. Find Batten University and view the list of approved general education courses.
4. Click on the course title to view the course description.
5. If you do not already have a CCAF education goal, you will need to create one.
6. Once you have completed your CCAF education goals, apply for Air Force Tuition Assistance in the AFVEC portal.

7. Register online or contact your local Education and Training Section. Please identify yourself as a GEM student.
